Indian cricket fans could soon have another iconic venue to celebrate, as plans are underway for a massive 1,00,000-seat stadium in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), following the scale of the Narendra Modi Stadium. The project is being spearheaded by Devendra Fadnavis to boost world-class sports infrastructure in the state.
The proposed stadium will be developed in collaboration with CIDCO and the Mumbai Cricket Association, following detailed discussions on execution and planning. The meetings were led by MCA President Ajinkya Naik and CIDCO Managing Director Vijay Singhal, outlining a roadmap for one of the largest cricket venues in the world.
The stadium is envisioned to nurture future talent, strengthen grassroots cricket, and create a world-class platform for athletes. It is expected to host international matches as well as high-profile domestic and global tournaments.
“A 1 lakh-capacity stadium in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will not only elevate Mumbai cricket but also firmly position Maharashtra on the global sporting map,” Naik said.
“This world-class infrastructure will create unparalleled opportunities for player development, provide critical exposure to emerging talent, and strengthen the cricketing ecosystem across all levels,” Naik added.
