The preparations for hosting the Afro-Asia Cup have moved forward another step. This time, the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) has appointed a six-member interim committee to organize the tournament and increase the number of competitive opportunities for players.

An AGM was held on Saturday to bring back the Afro-Asia Cup tournament, where this committee was appointed. One of its main goals is to convey the message of organizing such tournaments to other bodies, like the Asian Cricket Council, and to create more opportunities.

Tavengwa Mukuhlani, chairman of the African Cricket Council, commented on the tournament’s progress in a press conference, saying, “We have spoken with the Asia Cricket Council, and they want the Afro-Asia Cup to be revived.”

In 2005 and 2007, a series was held between the Asia XI and the Africa XI. Players from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh formed one team, while players from South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Kenya formed the other.

The first edition of the series in 2005 was held in Centurion and Durban. The second edition in 2007 took place in Bengaluru and Chennai. A third edition was planned in Kenya but never happened. Now, after two decades, we wait to see if the Afro-Asia Cup will take the field once more.
