As we stand on the cusp of another historic IPL mega-auction, the IPL 2025 mega-auction which is slated to happen on 24th and 25th November in Jeddah will witness a handful of massive names will be going under the hammer.
Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul, the three captains in the last season who were released by their respective franchises will be headlining the first round of auction as they are amongst the 12 marquee players whose names will kickstart the mega event.
Out of the 12 names in the first round of marquees, seven Indians constitute the prized list. Apart from Iyer, Pant and Rahul, the other four are Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. The other five overseas names include Mitchell Starc, Jos Buttler, Kagiso Rabada, David Miller and Liam Livingstone.
Two big names that weren’t a part of the auction list included the likes of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood. Despite the two big names not being there, a surprise name that got added to the list was seasoned English fast-bowler, James Anderson. The man who retired from all other formats to be a part of red-ball cricket for the latter half of his career has expressed his desire to be a part of the cash-rich Indian Premier League at 42. He is the oldest player listed for the auction at a base price of INR 1.25 crore.
If Anderson is the oldest player to be registered for this year’s auction, the youngest name on the list is Vaibhav Suryavanshi who is just 13 years old and has already played 13 First-Class matches for Bihar while featuring in two youth Test matches for India U19, scoring a century against Australia U19 last month.
This is the first time since 2018, that the marquee list has been split into two. Back in 2018, there were 16 marquee players divided into two sets while the last mega-auction saw 10 marquee players being auctioned in a single set.
Overall, out of the 574 players who have been enlisted for the IPL auction, 366 are from India while 208 hail from abroad. There are also 330 uncapped players out of which 318 are from India while 12 are overseas. A total of 204 slots will be filled across 10 teams with 70 of them assigned for overseas players.
The auction will begin from 3:30 PM IST on November 24th.
