Sri Lanka pacers Dilshan Madushanka and Matheesha Pathirana have been ruled out of the ODI series against India due to injuries.
“Matheesha has jarred his shoulder, and because it is the same issue that he had during the World Cup last year, they have chosen not to risk it,” team manager Mahinda Halangoda told ESPNCricinfo.
Madushanka, on the other hand, injured his hamstring during training. The left-arm pacer played just one match in the T20I series as well.
One of their replacements, 29-year-old Shariz, has played 47 competitive 50-over matches and has 80 wickets to his name, including a career-best of 6/21, which he picked up in his most recent match for Burfher against Kurunegala. Malinga, 23, has played seven List-A matches since his debut in 2022 and has managed 12 wickets at 24.16 in the format.
Sri Lanka suffered a 3-0 whitewash in the T20I series under new skipper Charith Asalanka. He will lead the team in the ODIs as well.
