Duleep Trophy: Prolific Tilak Varma smashes his fifth First-Class century

Prolific Indian batsman Tilak Varma smashed a vital century for India A in round 2 of the Duleep Trophy 2024 against India D at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, Anantapur. India A resumed Day 3 on 115/1. Varma, who walked out in the morning, added 104 runs alongside overnight batter Pratham Singh, who smashed 122.

The 21-year-old was able to get going with the bat after a fairly uneventful show during the first innings. After being dismissed for 10 runs in the previous innings, he managed to bring up his fifth first-class century in the Duleep Trophy 2024 match.

According ESPNcricinfo, playing his 17th First-Class match (26 innings), Varma has raced to 1,180 runs at an average of over 50. This was his fifty ton in First-Class cricket (50s: 4).

The young stalwart showcased a plethora of shots including the sweep, reverse-sweep and some fine footwork during his innings which resulted in the century putting his side well in front.

So far Tilak has represented the national side in four ODIs and 16 T20Is but is yet to make an appearance in the longest format.
